3 Tips To Help You Craft Your Application
Similar to an interview, an application requires your full attention. You want to leave a room after making a strong impression; likewise, you want a viewer to look at your application and categorize it under “powerful stuff.”
So here are some tips we’ve gathered together in correlation with the article How To Nail An Interview for you:
1. Dress to Impress
In one of our previous write-ups, we had introduced the concept of self branding, and of its importance in every step you take in order to reach your goals. Your application is one of the crucial parts of that deal. You want a person to be able to look at your application and be able to identify you in it.
So, make it presentable. Make it understandable & make sure that the reader can hear your voice through it.
2. Be odd
The key to get noticed in a crowd where everyone is standing is to start jumping with your hands in the air…
Maybe. But on a more serious note, the point is to push all the elements that everyone already possesses a little further by adding character to it. This extra distance will help you catch the reader off-guard.
For example, if 10 people are asked to “portray” themselves, you could stand out by merely putting a dot on the blank sheet of paper and scribble down “that’s me” on the top…Only to follow up on the bottom with a, “I’m not the dot, or the one that lives on it. I’m the one that created it.”
Something bold, clever, yet characteristic will not only get your application approved, it may just be able to turn all those considerable second thoughts in your favor!
On that note, this video illustrates this idea in a beautiful way:
3. Code: CKR
Curiosity. Knowledge. Relation.
Develop a personal code for approach.
Curiosity waters to growth. Without genuine curiosity, it is more unlikely that we won’t be applying 100% of ourselves in whatever we do.
Knowledge is power. The more you know about the program, company or organization you’re applying for, the better communication there would be. The more you know about their image, the better you can adapt to their style and show them how you’re a good fit for them.
Many times applicants emphasize more on themselves and forget to cater to the image of the place they are applying for. Knowledge is that extra bit, go for it.
Relation is what you’ll gain vis-à-vis your input. By showing curiosity and a good sense of knowledge through your application’s character, there’s a better chance for you to relate to the person considering your application.
All in all, treat your application like a pot that you mold in a pottery class. It takes thought, effort and it shows your handy work. Don’t just write an application for the sake of applying, craft it.
