How I Paved a New Path (episode 5)
This is part five in a series about how I went went from emerging artist and residency director, to bringing countless of artists to Art Basel Miami and other big art fairs around the world, while giving them the best professional practices to show up confident. It may sound like a quick success story, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Want to get the story delivered to your inbox? Sign up here.
Well, the first Exposure exhibition was a success and the future was bright.
My mission was – and still is – to pave a new path in the art world – for all of us. It is time to make a new, less treacherous way of becoming a successful artist. Artists don’t have to be established or filthy rich to show their work and gain exposure at big art fairs, and they don’t have to attend expensive art schools to learn how to become a professional artist – and now I’ve proven it.
Do you ever feel like you just don’t know what to do to get yourself out there? That feeling where you know you’ve got a great body of work, and you’re so motivated to make your name known, but you feel helpless as to HOW?
As you can tell, I know how it feels. Believe me, it took me a long time to get here. But it really doesn’t have to be that way for everyone. There is no reason to reinvent the wheel. I want to break down the barriers and help you gain exposure and success, and get there as fast as possible.
Since our humble beginnings, the Exposure Program has exploded to an international program. We have shown in Miami, New York City, Los Angeles, and now we’re gearing up for the Venice Beinnale in Italy. Looking back at our first exhibition really shows me how far we’ve come and gives me even more confidence that I can help you get as far as you want to get – even if it seems impossible at first.
I’m proud to say that the Exposure Program has evolved into a comprehensive professional practices and exhibition program. Now, I can do so much more than represent artists at art fairs – I can show them how to approach galleries, how to apply for and get grants, how to make their website work for them, and how to professionally, confidently attain professional status in theri careers and finally make a living doing what they love. I can show them how to be professional and stand out against the crowd to get known and get paid.
Our artists learn how to:
- Build the right resume
- Write a statement that will shine
- Create a compelling bio
I show them how to:
- Confidently create quality images
- Apply for grants, shows, and other opportunities
- Ship their work properly
- Price and prepare their work for exhibition
I help them get noticed with comprehensive tools to:
- Use social media professionally
- Create a stellar website
- Build a robust email list
All while giving them real-world experience by:
- Exhibiting at prestigious art fairs
- Connecting with thousands of collectors and buyers
- Networking with hundreds of gallerists
- Following up in a professional, non-pushy way
Why do I do this for other artists and not just for myself? Because I want more artists out there succeeding with their work, contributing to our cultural voice, and getting paid to make the world a more beautiful and meaningful place.
Instead of opening another gallery and taking a good chunk of your sales, I created a program that puts opportunity, confidence and success into your hands – and I’m there to guide you along the way with weekly support, both before and long after the exhibition happens.
